FTM Newsletter: Surgical Procedures – Phalloplasty vs. Metoidioplasty

ftmanonimo:

Furthermore the phalloplasty penis is basically a “dead” piece of flesh between your legs. It has no sensational value whatsoever. [BLAH, BLAH, BULL SHIT - added by transman]

That’s not true. In some cases sensation can be lost, but in general the penis is sensitive like any other part of the body (to cold, heat, pain…)… It’s also possible to connect nerves from the clitoris to the tissue so that the penis has the same kind of sensitivity everywhere

Yes, there are phalloplasty procedures that offer tactile sensation in the penis, and there are also phalloplasty procedures that offer both tactile and erotic sensation in the penis. There are several types of phalloplasty!

The dissemination of false information about bottom surgery, and phalloplasty in particular, MUST STOP!! If you don’t want bottom surgery, fine, but for fuck’s sake don’t spread false information in some ridiculous effort to validate your decision. (Gawd, is this as big a problem in MTF circles as it is with trans guys?!) Unless you know what you’re talking about, STFU and LISTEN.

I have emailed the author of the (now defunct) FTM Newsletter blog politely and have asked that they remove or edit this problematic post. I encourage you to do the same: FTM@fnbconnect.co.za

Oh, and why exactly did Big Brother Transmen share this post in the first place? It’s a disservice to your Little Bros.

Sandoz Suspending Production of Testosterone

Answers about the testosterone shortage affecting brands in Canada and the U.S. have been few and far between, but we can safely assume that Sandoz testosterone will remain off the shelves for quite a while. Sandoz Canada announced Sunday it was temporarily suspending production at its Quebec facility. The company said it was expecting “a significant reduction in output” and was halting production lines to upgrade operations after quality-control assessments by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration warned the factory fell short of FDA standards.

The Beard As a Statement of Protest

Beard of Protest

This is my beard after not shaving for 6 months. Wooly is the word.

My friend Tarald is growing his beard to protest trans discriminatory policies in Norway. Inspired by the first Norwegian king, Harald Fairhair, Tarald’s beard symbolizes the discrimination transgender people face, and our fight for basic human rights. “What happens to my ovaries will probably have consequences for other trans people as well,” Tarald says. In solidarity, my beard and I are lending support to Tarald’s mission. Care to join in? Find out how here.

Testosterone Shortages In Canada

There’s been lots of hub-bub about the recent testosterone shortage in Canada, with many people expressing surprise that this could happen. When I was considering testosterone therapy and weighing my options, one thing I felt sure of was that because testosterone is a common medication for men — not a “transsexual drug” — I wouldn’t be subjected to shortages. This was naive. In the 3 years and 9 months of being on testosterone, I’ve experienced not one testosterone shortage, but four. Testosterone shortages seem to be quite common here in Canada.

Another one from the archives, 1997. It’s a little loose, and my guitar tone is wussy, but I loved performing this track. Enjoy!

From the archives, me on guitar, 1997. I wish I was a little louder in the mix. None of us would be very happy with our instrument tone, so I’m leaving this uncredited ;) Some of the best musos I played with. I learned so much from these cats!
